PHOTOGRAPHING NATURE AND WILDLIFE

A side benefit of photographing nature and wildlife, is learning about the subject that is being photographed. Later while processing the photographs, I make it a point to learn about the subject through research. This to me, is just as interesting as taking the photograph. So by default, we can learn more about the wildlife or landscape, than perhaps was the intent. The two birds shown below call Hawaii home. The Cattle Egret is not native to Hawaii and the Pacific Golden Plover migrates. To control insects, the Cattle Egret was introduced to Hawaii circa 1959. However there were unintended consequences, it preys on the eggs of native birds that are endangered.  The Pacific Golden Plover is migratory and flies nonstop from Alaska to Hawaii, generally taking 3-4 days. It is through photography that we can educate ourselves and gain a greater understanding of Nature and Wildlife. "I Learned From That".
