Whether the Weather Cooperates

One Sunday I drove to the North Shore of Oahu to photograph the Honu (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle). Even though I knew it was going to rain, I headed out the door. Sure enough when I arrived, it began to rain. I grabbed my gear hoping for a short break in the rain, and walked to where I knew the sea turtles would be resting. I hunkered beneath a small tree with my poncho draped over me, and waited. The sound of the pitter patter on my poncho from the rain was soothing. A small window of opportunity arrived and that's when I was able to capture this picture.

The turtle was facing the ocean, so I had to position myself between him and the ocean. As a general rule, be cautious when turning your back to the ocean. I dropped to my knees so I would be eye level with the turtle. When photographing small animals or children try I photographing them at eye level. I find it more appealing as you are not towering over them. Although weather was a factor, in my decision making process I did not let it dissuade. "I Learned From That."
